Q: What is the Italian Home for Children?
A: The Italian Home for Children is a treatment facility offering a variety of residential and community based programs serving emotionally disturbed and special needs children ages 4 to 13 and their families. The Italian Home's services are appropriate for children with significant emotional and behavioral disorders irrespective of family resources or family involvement. The Italian Home has four residential programs on its Jamaica Plain campus and two programs located in East Freetown, Massachusetts. The multitude of programs offer families a continuum of services, provided by a multi-disciplinary staff: Master's Level clinicians, psychiatrists, registered nurses, special education teachers, trained childcare workers - over 250 professionals working toward one primary goal - the reintegration of the children back into their schools, families, and communities by giving them the tools to cope with their emotional scars.

Q: Is the Italian Home for Children an Italian organization?
A: The Italian Home was established 90 years ago as an home for Italian children orphaned in the influenza epidemic of 1918. Today, the Italian Home for Children is a multi-racial, multi-cultural children's organization that provides services for the most severely abused, neglected, and emotionally disturbed children in Massachusetts. The Italian Home for Children exists as a resource for children and families in crisis irrespective of race, ethnicity, gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, religion or national origin. We are committed to culturally responsive services and involvement in community programs and activities to the greatest possible extent.

Q: How is the Italian Home funded?
A: The Italian Home believes in a balanced approach to funding. The majority of our funds come from government agencies who purchase our services: Department of Children & Families (formerly Department of Social Services), Department of Mental Health, Department of Early & Secondary Education, to name a few. However, the money we spend providing services to the children in our care always exceeds what the purchasers of our services are able to pay. To offset this, the Italian Home is committed to a strong fundraising program. Year in and year out, the Italian Home receives donations in all sizes and forms, from a variety of donors: individuals, corporations, folks who attend our special events, and bequests. Our commitment to fundraising reflects our dedication to providing the highest quality services to children.
